The event, which marked the city’s second beach flat track motocross race, witnessed a flock of adrenaline junkies and thrill-seeking riders not only from Eastern Samar but also from other provinces inside and outside the region, such as Burauen, Tanauan, Dulag, La Paz, Tacloban, Sta. Margarita, Pasirana, Palo, Northern Samar, and Cebu, compete in the categories Underbone Local, Underbone Open, Production, and Enduro at Baybay Beach yesterday, September 2nd. Although the race did not include obstacles that riders needed to overcome, the unfamiliar sandy tracks that riders had to conquer offered a unique challenge for participants.
“First time ko maglaro ng race na flat track tapos sa beach pa, karamihan kasi dun sa amin, motorcross talaga, may obstacles, so, dito, mas maganda kung maganda yung gulong mo, yung paddle tire, kasi mahihirapan ka talaga kung hindi paddle tire. Pero kung paddle tire, medyo madali naman, kailangan lang ng control. At kung sakaling next year magkaroon ulit ng ganitong event, babalik kami dito kasi masaya dito.” Jomar Villaban, one of the participants from Cebu, stated.
Villaban also added that the unique setting of the race piqued their interest, which is why they traveled from Cebuโwanting to take advantage of the adventure the beach tracks offer.
On the other hand, Franco Azura, one of the participating riders from Balangkayan, shared that he is happy that Borongan is launching such activities as part of its fiesta celebration because it gives Estehanon riders like him an avenue to do what they are genuinely passionate about.
This event was realized through the efforts of Bonggoy Afable, who introduced the idea of a motocross race in Borongan to Mr. Rupert Ambil, who then suggested Baybay Beach as its venue as part of their effort to further highlight the area as one of the city’s prominent tourism spots.
According to Afable, he is very delighted that he was able to spearhead this event, especially seeing the support coming from the locals and other motorcross enthusiasts. “Ginbuhat in nam nga event kay nakita kami nga mayda na magdiru-dilain nga sport ngadi ha Borongan, pero waray pa an yadi nga motorcross, so naisipan in nam ig-organize para liwat matagan hin opportunity iton mga riders, ngan very thankful ako kan Sir Rupert kasi han dinuok kami ha iya pag-suggest hini nga event, largo kami niya gin-accommodate ngan gin buligan para talaga mahimo ta in nga event yana. Ngan thankful daman ako hiton mga binulig labi na han mga taga harayo nga lugar kasi bisan guti la an amon prize, talaga nga kinadi hira para suportahan ini nga event ngan bumulig hini nga karisyuhan.” Afable stated.
Afable also shared the challenges that he encountered in hosting the event, especially in making sure that the event would run smoothly, but added that although he had undergone some difficulties, it taught him lessons on how they could further improve the event on its next run as they also plan to make this a regular frontrunner on Borongan’s list of sports activities.
For its maiden launch, Padulong Fun Borongan Motorcross Race winners will receive Php 8,000 for first place, Php 5,000 for second place, and Php 3,000 for third place.
