Guiuan, Eastern Samar β In an extraordinary demonstration of camaraderie and regional solidarity, Borongan City proudly announces its sponsorship of flights for the national sports agency, UPSA, as they embark on the exhilarating second leg of the 2023 National Surfing Tour.
This historic collaboration marks the first instance in which Borongan City has extended its support to an event in another municipality of Eastern Samar, specifically Guiuan. Serving as the primary airline gateway of Eastern Samar and the provincial capital, Borongan City is conveniently situated just two hours away from Guiuan, the southernmost municipality within the province. This milestone also signifies the first time a single province has hosted two legs of the prestigious surfing competition: Odyssey Waves in Calicoan and, for the fourth consecutive year, Surf City Borongan.
Atty. PJ Evardone, representing Governor Ben Evardone, expressed his excitement about this unique inter-municipal collaboration and emphasized the significance of Eastern Samar’s role in the national tour by hosting two legs. Cong. Fe Abunda, the lone district representative of Eastern Samar, conveyed her unwavering support for the event via Quora Basada and reaffirmed her commitment by becoming an event sponsor.
Guiuan Mayor Annaliza Gonzales Kwan extended her heartfelt appreciation to all the sponsors and reiterated her gratitude to Borongan City for facilitating the transportation of the UPSA team, who will officiate the national competition by air. She underscored that the outpouring of support from various stakeholders in the province emphasizes the unity within Eastern Samar, echoing the sentiment that they are “one Eastern Samar.”
Representative Rupert Ambil II of Borongan City, who also serves as the City Information Officer and Sports and Events Chairman, conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the municipality of Guiuan. He emphasized that this support is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the executive department and legislative body, led by Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda and Vice Mayor Emman Tiu Sonco.
Ambil concluded by stating that “Borongan City’s role in tourism development is to serve as the tourism gateway for the Pacific dreams of Eastern Samar,” adding that it is their honor to support the municipalities within the province, as mandated by the executive and legislative bodies. He ended by declaring, “Surf City Borongan loves the Surf Town of Guiuan.”
This unprecedented collaboration between Borongan City and Guiuan reflects the unity, cooperation, and shared vision of Eastern Samar in promoting its rich surfing culture and inviting enthusiasts from all corners of the Philippines to experience the beauty of its coastlines.
