Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda, on February 18, signed a new executive order (EO JIDCA-007-0222) that aims to reconstitute and reorganize the city’s Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council.
Through this executive order, the city’s priority development programs are streamlined to ensure all concerned offices are working closely to deliver the services efficiently.
“We have hosted multiple sports events in the city and have learned from it over the years. This EO applies all that learning in our future sporting and community development events and will maximize the resources of our government to better serve Boronganons,” Mayor Agda said.
Included in this EO JIDCA-010-0222 is the appointment of a Coordinator for Sports, Events, and Community Development, which is delegated to perform the powers, duties, and responsibilities and authority of the City Mayor with respect to the City Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council, including its chairmanship.
The designated coordinator, which serves under the Office of the Mayor, will also supervise the City Information Office, assist the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, lead the city’s volunteers program, conduct oversight over the implementation of the Tourism Development Plan, and provide insights for and support to the city development plan, among others.
Rupert Ambil II, Executive Assistant III of Mayor Agda, was appointed to this position. Prior to joining the City Government of Borongan, Ambil had extensive years in the media, communications, and community development sectors with projects spanning different regions in the country. He was also the Boronganon behind the Surf in the City festival which featured the best surfers in the country in 2019 and 2021, and brought massive media attention to the city as the emerging water sports hub in Eastern Visayas.
“I am deeply honored to be entrusted by our Mayor with this responsibility. I look forward to working with my fellow Boronganons in bringing inclusive change for our community,” Ambil said.
With the loosening of travel restrictions due to the low COVID-19 cases, the City Government of Borongan is gearing up for a series of community events that will bring domestic and foreign visitors and eventually, investors. This includes the programming of tourism operations and infrastructure, and the return of the annual surfing competitions in Baybay Boulevard.
“We have to bounce back to the challenge brought by this pandemic. I am confident that with Mr Ambil onboard and with everyone working together, we can definitely carve a place for Borongan City in this new normal world,” Mayor Dayan ended.
