LANDMARK ORDINANCE RECOGNIZING LGBTQIA+ RIGHTS IN BORONGAN CITY, PASSED

A number of LGBTQIA+ members in the City, are now rejoicing at the passage of the City Ordinance which seeks the rights of all its members to be protected against all forms of abuse and discrimation.

In a brief phone call, SPM member Zen Daza expressed joy at the passage of the Ordinance which she considers a breakthrough in their pursuit for equal rights, like other humans.

She recalled, that in the recent past, she would often be misidentified whenever she would use public restrooms in the city and in other places.
Similarly, upon checking of records, neither are there lodged cases of abuse against any member of the LGBTQIA+, in the police station nor at the CSWDO, for fear of further abuse on LGBTQIA+ complainants.

According to Daza, however, she’s overwhelmed by the overflowing support of Vice Mayor Emman Tiu Sonco, the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Borongan and Mayor Dayan Agda who, she said has vowed to provide her sector with other needed services.
She further shared, that the current establishment of LGBTQIA+ restrooms at the City Terminal was mainly a product of her advocacy with the support of City PopCom Officer, Mark Cortado. #
