DA-8 HAILS LGU-BORONGAN FOR MAKING AGRICULTURE A PRIORITY PROGRAM

Department of Agriculture Regional Office-08 Director, Angel Enriquez, was all praises at the Borongan City Government for prioritizing agricultural development among its flagship programs.

This was during the recently held Turn-Over Rites of the Results and Outputs on Soil Assessment Survey of the city’s agricultural lands and water source which was conducted by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) central office.

Director Enriquez lauded City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda, for initiating first the soil suitability of every barangay in the area before starting the program.

“I feel proud to announce to other local government units of Region 8 that before any crop should be planted the activity on soil survey and suitability assessment of agricultural areas should be done first,” Director Angel Enriquez said.

“You have courageously gone out of your way to make the farmers top priority,” said Enriquez.

Enriquez reiterated that agriculture sector is the only sector which stood still during the pandemic.

“The seeds that will be provided, the fertilizers and the farm machineries should be interconnected and it is good thing that here in Region 8, in Eastern Samar mayroon tayong isang LGU na priority talaga ang agriculture,” she added.

Enriquez saluted all men and women who are behind Mayor Agda’s dream for every Boronganons.

“Mayor Agda will not be able to have this without the support of the Sangunniang Panlungsod, Department Heads, National Agencies, Punong Barangays (PBs), and Farmers Associations,” she pointed out.

She also mentioned the important participation of the PBs in the DA’s program in registering farmers thru Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA).

The Soil Assessment Survey includes the study of Borongan City’s water sources, fertilizers suitability and local climate.

Mayor Agda’s Dukwag Agrikultara is offering financial assistance to farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, agricultural organizations/cooperatives and agricultural workers without collateral and interest.

With the ordinance and the recently signed IRR, some requirements however are said necessary to comply with, for a famer to enjoy the institutionalized program. #
