To evaluate the operational capacity of the Borongan City Airport, the Cebu Pacific Flight Operations Safety and Security team on September 14-16 conducted an airport inspection to study the viability of opening a flight route.
In the evaluation, Cebu Pacific Capt. Carlo Aclan shared that the airport has no “showstoppers” or obstacles in terms of technical operations for flying.
Borongan City Mayor Dayan Agda expressed his gratitude for the airline’s interest in bringing more commercial flights to Borongan.
“We welcome this development in our bid to open our airport to commercial airlines. We thank Cebu Pacific for their interest in our city and of course, we appreciate the efforts of the city flight operations team in negotiating with major airlines in the country. We are one step closer to bringing direct flights to Borongan,” said Mayor Agda.
City Mayor Agda also highlighted how this progress would further improve economic development in the city.
“No doubt that this positive progress will help boost our economic development by providing a more convenient access towards discovering the beauty and business readiness of Borongan City,” Agda added.
On June 22, 2022, The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed that Borongan Airport is ready to accept flights managed by major airlines. CAAP allowed the local airport to negotiate with commercial airline partners.
Borongan City Information OIC and Flight Operations Chairman Rupert Ambil revealed that the airport is prepared to accept commercial operations pending minimal improvements and procurement of relevant equipment. This means that the city is now ready to welcome Boronganons back home via air travel.
“We are happy to share that, according to initial inspection, our airport is set and ready to accept commercial operations pending minimal improvements and procurement of relevant equipment. We thank Mayor Agda for his steadfast support in this initiative. Ready na tayo na i-welcome ang ating mga kababayan pabalik ng Borongan through our local airport. We are hopeful we can provide a much-needed Christmas homecoming to our beloved kababayans,” Ambil said.
The inspection was led by Cebu Pacific Capt. Carlos Aclan with eight personnel and inspection team; Aldous Celicious, Julian Abunales, Carl Famero, Armstrong Caser, Mary Fe Vinas, Veronica Rieza, Jelyn Picardal.
