Initiated by the City Population and Development Office through Population Officer Mark Cortado Jr., the ceremony featured paintings by local artists Donato Mel Amasa, Edmundo Balan and Jayson Casarino depicting the likeness of Borongan’s local chief executives from the year 1899 to the present.
The unveiling of the portraits is aimed at preserving, documenting, and safeguarding the images that represent Borongan’s history, specifically from the time of the first Philippine Republic under General Emilio Aguinaldo to the present.
Descendants and family members of the honorees graced the event, giving life to the legacy of the city’s past leaders.
Meanwhile, current City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda announced that a building will be mounted for the safekeeping of the portraits, adding that they will each be provided with a monument of their images. The mayor is also eyeing the transfer of the deceased former mayors’ remains to the New Borongan City Cemetery, giving them a respectable burial place fit for respectable public servants.
Also present at the ceremony were Cong. Maria Fe Abunda of the Lone District of Eastern Samar, Borongan City Vice Mayor Emman Tiu Sonco, and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Borongan.
