BORONGAN CITY’S RIVERFRONT PARK PROMISES SPACE FOR RELAXATION, MERRIMENT

The cool afternoon breeze and the thrilling burst of colorful sparks of the fireworks display, wrapped each participant during the opening of the Borongan City Riverfront Park.

After about six months of construction, the City’s newest recreational space is another feather in the cap for all Boronganons.

The nice architectural stretch located along the riverbank near the Loom Bridge was recently turned-over to the City LGU and in turn, was inaugurated and opened to the public by City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda, Vice Mayor Emmanuel Tiu Sonco with all the SP Members.

Taboc’s Acting Barangay Chairman Willy Labro was all praises in his acceptance speech during the ceremony, saying, the park will not only attract tourists, it will also protect his community from sudden floods that usually follow incessant rains.

Taking a photo of the setting sun, as he took it from his side during the late afternoon ceremony, educator and Barangay Taboc resident Manny Arago likewise remarked, “From here, we can have the best view of the sunset,” as he proudly flashed to friends around his cellphone photo.

Media practitioner, Eden Cidro, quipped, “We can better celebrate New Year here, what an ideal place!”, she said as she with the crowd watched with awe the 5-minute colorful sparkling glitters of the lighted fireworks which highlighted the momentous ocassion.

In his message Mayor Agda said, the stretch will extend toward the City’s Public Market and eventually in the coming years, to the opposite side toward Baybay Boulevard side or Detour Bridge.

“This high-impact project is one of our commitments, as your local officials, that as funded under the Local Government Assistance Fund. By 2022, we can deliver to you, quality riverfront parks on both sides of our rivers,” Mayor Agda pointed out.

He added, that according to law, a three meter easement is allowed for cleaning and beautification of rivers, thus the continuing improvement of riverbanks in the city.

“We will try to build the same structures in our rivers as in other cities abroad, which have been converted to parks, and where people can relax after a stressful day,” City Mayor Agda said.

As host barangay, Taboc assumes the responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness and protection from abusive users of the park, as stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU). #
