Now, it can be told. Borongan City’s “Panapuan Center” is now open to serve visitors and tourists with their “pasalubong” needs.
Located at Baybay boulevard, first floor of the City Tourism building, just beside the Senior Citizens Office, the Center offers an array of local products that every Boronganon can be proud of.
OIC Tourism Officer, Marissa Acorin informed that these locally made products belong to the City’s various Tourism Associations and “Kababayin-an” groups that submitted and have approved accreditation applications with the office of Sangguniang Panlungsod member who chairs SP’s Committee on Trade.
However, she added, that private individuals can also submit their products for trade at the “Pasalubong Center.” She further informed that every single product presented to PC is duly accounted for.
“Every buy-and-sell transaction is duly receipted with the City Treasurer’s Official Receipt (OR), it being the mandate of the LGU for transparency purposes, accountability and good governance,” as often reminded to all officials by City Mayor Dayan Agda.
Barangay Bugas’ crunchy ‘Biribid’ has now found a decent, permanent stall and could be a star among others, due to its antiquity in origin; the braided-looking crispy stick which has given livelihood to families in Bugas, dates back to the 1940’s, as read in the small packages and production of the crackly snacks has been passed down to next generations.
Other products found at the PC are carved drift woods, Crochet products, Key Chains, Paper Weight made by the women’s group of Pta. Maria, Banana Chips of Brgy. Alang-alang, Peanut Butter from Taboc, native basket from Rattan materials Cagbonga, CocoShells of Jayson Andag from the City proper. | via Alicia Nicart
