Boronganons will soon enjoy free wifi access across the city’s public places!
This came after the Borongan City Local Government Unit headed by City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda signed the Memorandum of Agreement on Friday, February 18, with the telecommunication provider giant Globe Telecom to boost the city’s internet connectivity and accessibility at zero cost.
The MOA signing was participated by Hon. Dayan Agda and Globe Telecom officials Chona C. Chan and Ian Tauro, Customer Development Manager (CDM) of Globe Business MSME Group, and Cres Enage, Territory Sales Head – Mobile (FSO).
“We thank Globe for this project. This is a positive step towards connecting Boronganons to the world, and to further modernizing our beloved city. As we prepare for our local economy’s reopening, we need to harness the power of internet connectivity and digital media to improve our city’s education, communications, and disaster management programs, as well as to draw more tourists,” Mayor Agda said.
Moreover, the City LGU’s initiative of free access to bandwidth will provide opportunities for Boronganons to express their feedback in governance, empowering government efficiency and transparency.
“By using technology we can better serve our constituents and promote transparency and efficiency in public service,” added Agda.
According to the agreement, Globe Telecom will sponsor fast and easy-to-use Go WiFi services and internet facilities in various sites including Borongan City Hall, Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital, Baybay Boulevard, and Borongan Terminal.
The telecommunications giant’s project will help establish the “Digital Borongan City Project” that will speed up e-government services of the LGU to Boronganon residents.
“We need better internet connection to make sure that our city government’s programs reach our residents. We wholeheartedly thank Globe for making this happen,” said Rupert Ambil, Officer-in-Charge of Borongan City Information Office.
On December 2, 2021, the Borongan LGU and Globe Telecom had a meeting at the SP Session Hall to discuss the enhancement of Globe’s internet service in the city.
The agreement is fully supported by the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod through the Resolution no. 64 which authorizes the city mayor to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with Globe Telecom for the proposed Wi-Fi service at no cost for the city government.
“With this partnership, we hope to enhance the delivery of vital government services to our constituents. By empowering our people with easy access to information, they can expect a more efficient and effective public service from their local government,” Mayor Agda emphasized.
