On Friday, February 25, as the nation commemorated the 36th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution with the theme: “Pagtutulungan tungo sa sama-samang pagbangon mula sa pandemya”, numerous peace builders participated in the peace rally followed by a short program held at the Borongan City Plaza. This even was attended by City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda and the Department Heads of LGU Borongan.
“36 years after han edsa revolution, kinahanglan naton mag urusa for us to be able to achieve social justice. Maabot it panahon it CPP-NPA magco-collapse, and for that to happen, we need to be united. Rest assured that the City Government will provide fair, impartial, and unbiased service for all of you, our people”, said Mayor Agda in his message.
Two of the peacebuilders present during the program, alias Karen and alias Eddie, both spoke out for peace. They called out to their ex-colleagues who were still in the mountains to surrender and be one with the government.
The activity included the setting free of doves as a symbol of independence and freedom, and ended with the singing of the patriotic song, “Pilipinas Kong Mahal.”
The EDSA People Power is an ineradicable reminder of how Filipinos fought for freedom and justice.
