BARANGAY SERVICES IN BORONGAN CITY WILL SOON BE ACCESSIBLE ONLINE

In a bid to digitize and streamline public service in Borongan City, the city government through the City Information Office rolled out the installation of internet and cable connections to different barangays and rural health units. As of March 28, BCIO installed the internet in 39 locations.

This project aims to prepare and capacitate barangay officials and health workers with the latest technology that will enhance their daily workflows. Along with the new technology, barangay employees would be equipped with basic office software skills like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides as well as proper handling of different social media platforms. They will also be trained in cloud-based data and document management.

This initiative will make communication and feedback mechanisms easier, especially during emergency and calamity situations.

Brgy-Digital-Access“It is a prevailing problem that our constituents, especially in the far-flung barangays, do not get the needed information to access government programs. With this project, we are hoping to overcome that information gap by capacitating our barangay officials and workers with the needed communication skills,” Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda said.

Aside from internet access, the project also includes installation of cable connections that will be used to broadcast the dedicated television channel of the Borongan City Government. This channel will feature informative materials about government processes, current events and programs, accomplishments of the city government, emergency broadcast system, and entertainment videos that will showcase local sports, recreation, and talents of Boronganons.

“This is just the first phase of this project. In our next step, we are targeting to connect all 61 barangays of the city so no one is left behind. We believe that data-driven processes are the key to better governance, and with the full support of Mayor Dayan, we can now expect to realize that vision in Borongan City. Soon, people can simply process documents online,” Rupert Ambil II, Borongan City Information Office head, said.

The city’s Libreng Medisina program will benefit most in this digital shift. With the improved database management system, health workers can easily track and update each beneficiaries’ files in real-time. In the long run, this project will promote contactless and paperless transactions and will enhance the efficiency of day-to-day operations of different barangays of the city government

“The technology is already available. All we have to do is to incorporate it into our workflow and harness its potential to better serve our fellow Boronganons,” Mayor Dayan added.
