The City Government of Borongan conducted a Youth Consultative Meeting at Barangay San Gabriel, Borongan City on Wednesday, February 23. The consultative meeting aims to hear and understand the concerns, opinions, and suggestions of young people to improve the Youth Development Program of the City.
Out of the numerous social projects and programs of the City Government, Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda expounded two of the most beneficial programs to the youth, the Libreng Sakay and the Students’ Allowance programs.
During the forum, one of the participants, Melbirth Geyro Aljibe, a first-year Political Science student in ESSU Main, asked about the difficulty that students might experience upon availing the free student’s allowance.
Mayor Agda addressed this concern instantaneously, “Waray niyo pag aagian nga hassle hit pag-avail hini nga programa kay para talaga in ha iyo. As long as boronganon ka, enrolled ka nga estudyante, mayda nim allowance. Waray maintaining grade, pag enroll ngan pagskuyla la hin tuhay, mayda nim allowance.”
(You will not experience any hassle on availing of the program because it is for all of you. As long as you are a Borongan citizen, an enrolled student, you will have your allowance. There is no maintaining grade requirement. Just get enrolled and study well, you will have your allowance.)
This reassurance drew excitement from the youth, who were eager to receive the City’s benefits. During the meeting, the youth were also informed about other potential programs of Mayor Agda, Vice Mayor Emmanuel T. Tiu Sonco, and the Sangguniang Panlungsod Members.
Another youth consultative meeting was held on Thursday, February 24, at Barangay Bugas, Borongan City and will be carried out in three (3) more barangays.
