Borongan City, the provincial capital of Eastern Samar, lies along the coast of the middle part of the province, facing the Pacific Ocean in the East. It is located at coordinates 11⁰36’ N. and 125⁰26’E. It is 126 kilometers away from Tacloban City, the regional capital of Region VIII, via South Samar Coastal Road and roughly the same distance through the Maharlika Highway and the Wright – Taft Road. Borongan City is approximately 550 air – kilometers southeast of Manila and about 65 air- kilometers northeast of Tacloban City.
As shown in the City Map, Borongan is bounded by the municipality of San Julian in the North, the municipality of Maydolong in the South, province of Western Samar, particularly the municipalities of Calbiga and Hinabangan in the West, and the Pacific Ocean in the East.
Land Area by Barangay
The city of Borongan is composed of 61 barangays; 9 of which are within the poblacion, 26 are coastal barangays, 2 island barangays and 31 interior barangays. Most of the interior barangays are located along the major rivers upstream while the island barangays are each located in the two major islands approximately 2 kilometers offshore of the coast of Borongan City mainland facing the Pacific Ocean.
