In a warm gesture of gratitude towards the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda graced the reception celebrating the 30th anniversary of its mounting in the Philippines. The gathering centered on jubilation over the partnerships secured and milestones reached in the agency’s three decades of global service.
The City Government of Borongan has recently established a significant partnership with KOICA with its consultative visit to the city for its Philippine Climate Resilient Cities Project.
In a meeting with Mayor Agda last July, KOICA Country Director Eunsub Kim said that the PCRC project is poised to elevate Borongan’s capacity to respond to devastating climate impacts. Mayor Agda was over the top with the arrival of the new climate ally, expressing hope for the partnership to help cultivate Borongan’s resources into sustainable and climate adaptive instruments for development.
KOICA is a governmental organization for Official Development Assistance established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea in 1991. It focuses on grant aid and technical cooperation programs with developing countries across the globe. In 1994, KOICA formally established its office in the Philippines. Interestingly, the celebration of its anniversary also coincides with the 75th year of the Philippines’ diplomatic ties with Korea.
Present at the event were the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines, His Excellency Lee Sanghwa; KOICA Vice President Kim Dongho; KOICA Country Director Mr. Eunsub Kim; DepEd Secretary Hon. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara; Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo Cua, as well as heads of United Nations agencies and other stakeholders.
