The City Government of Borongan has made official its financial blueprint for the incoming year with Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda and members of the City Council signing the ordinance approving the 2024 Annual Budget today, December 29.
With a grand total of Php 1,208,319,137, the budget is set to finance the city’s operational expenses, development projects, and other services–formally making up LGU-Borongan’s general fund for the calendar year 2024.
Of the aforementioned amount, twenty-one percent (21%) is allocated to the city’s social services such as the Libre Medisina program and cash assistance for Borongan’s youth, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups. The said percentage does not yet include the budget for the current administration’s brainchild program, Dukwag Agrikultura, which is to continue its operations this coming year.
Prior to affixing his signature on the ordinance, Mayor Agda said that Borongan sets a good example in dedicating a large portion of its budget to social welfare programs. He added that it is his express wish that such an approach to budget allocation be replicated by other local government units in the country so that every Filipino citizen may, in turn, experience government service that is truly for the people.
