On 13 June 2023, at the CAAP Central Office in Pasay City, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Borongan city government signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the development of the Borongan Airport, situated in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
Recognizing the region’s rising need for air travel, the Borongan city government collaborated with CAAP and airlines as the airport began operating commercial flights last year. The city government proposed a comprehensive plan to carry out and finance various development and maintenance projects at the airport, including the construction of a new passenger terminal building and other necessary infrastructure to accommodate more passengers and promote economic growth in the region.
