BORONGAN HOSTS HIGHLY-PRIZED NATIONAL SURFING COMPETITION HOPES TO SEND LOCAL “YOUNG GUNS” TO NATIONAL TEAM

The City of Borongan is all set to welcome national competitors, coaches even recreational athletes to the National Surfing Competition, with a whooping 1.1M prize money for the champion.

Set for November 26 to December 3, 2022, the national water sports event is also expected to hone the surfing skills of local “young guns”, as Atty. Bryan Lassiter termed it, in a recent media interaction called for by City Information Officer and main organizer of the Surf City, Rupert Ambil.

Top-notched Surfing coaches are expected to arrive Borongan, particularly, national trainer, John Matthew Carby, who confirmed his assistance to enrich the Surfing skills of young Surfing enthusiasts in the City.

Ambil added, that this is the first National Surfing Competition, ever held in the country with the most attractive prize and lengthy track, offering both professional and recreational surfers to compete and enjoy, thus, they expect more than 400 participants and guests to flock the City next week.

“The higher the prize, the more points an athlete gains, that could win him more points to be enlisted in the national team,” Ambil shared further.

Surfing is only one hook to attract guests and tourists to the City. This is also an advantage to our local producers with their products.

“It is hoped, that our local producers prepare and set-up booths, because some from Cebu and Tacloban have already notified them to signify their interests to set-up their respective booths,” Ambil noted further.

“This is also beneficial to our local hotel and restaurant business, even home-stays,” the City Information Officer pointed out. | via Alicia Nicart
