“LIBRE SAKAY” BRIDGES BORONGAN CITY GOVERNMENT TO INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND PARTNERS

The Borongan City government project “Libre Sakay” will provide free public transportation for its constituents along the national roads of the city.

Unexpectedly, the purchased bus is a Sweden brand that linked Borongan City and Business Sweden in a meeting last October 04, 2022, at Makati City, Philippines.

The knowledge of a small city purchasing buses for a social service that provides free rides to its people arouses curiosity on how a tiny Borongan City, compared to considerable huge cities in the Philippines, offers better social services. Accentuating the social services such as Dukwag Agrikultura (Agricultural Development), Libre Medisina (Free Medicine), Social Pension for Senior Citizens, and Libre Sakay (Free Ride), the Borongan City LGU representatives led by Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda presented in an exploratory meeting hosted by Business Sweden.

The objective and goal of Business Sweden, which is jointly owned by the Swedish government and Sweden’s business community, is to assist overseas companies and organizations in entering the Swedish market and domestic ones in using it as a springboard for growth and expansion.

The meeting’s discussion revolves around the opportune feasibility studies for Borongan City such as (1) renewable energy for hydroelectric power plant, (2) solar renewable energy, and, (3) a forest land use plan. In addition, Business Sweden committed sufficient funding for the feasibility studies and their utmost effort to link Borongan to interested Swedish partners who may potentially invest in the city.

The feasibility studies are expected to be done by the Swedish partners and/or other partner companies by the year 2023.

Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda was indeed grateful to be connected to such an organization; that only proves that LGU Borongan does things with competence and integrity.

In addition, he also set forth an executive agenda urging the Sangguniang Panlungsod to create an SP committee on International Relations and Partners that will focus solely on the international relations of Borongan City.

The meeting was led by Kristina Elinder Liljas, the Trade Commissioner of Sweden to the Philippines, with project leader Tina Del Rosario, and consultant Kristine Rabe. On behalf of the Borongan City Government, who appeared at the meeting were Atty. Romeo Devora, Reginald James Lorico, Jojito Acla, Atty. Orland Cordero, Eng. Lucid Afable, and Hans Basada.

Trade commissioner of Sweden to the Philippines, Kristina Elindner Liljas expressed that she is impressed how a small city, such as Borongan, can pull such social services with its resources.

Responded by the Borongan City mayor with the thought that it only reflects the demonstrated public service and the type of governance Borongan has.
