Ships heading to Borongan City ports can now dock without the risk of running aground nearby coral reefs or in the shallow portions of the sea.
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), installed six lateral marks three red (starboard hand mark) and three green (port hand mark); and six cardinal marks (five south cardinal and one east cardinal marks) on the waters of Baybay Boulevard on Thursday, April 29.
“These buoys serve a vital role in our maritime system, lalo na sa ating seafarers o mga fishermen para ma-guide sila kung saang direksyon sila dadaan papasok at palabas (especially for our seafarers and fishermen to know what direction they are going to),” said CG ENS Bryan Michael Tuyay, Coastguard Eastern Samar Station Commander.
The said buoys will serve as visible indicators to mark off the shallow portions of the water and will safely guide ships or boats to their berthing space in the Borongan port.
In the entire province of Eastern Samar, the first beneficiaries of the project are the City of Borongan and the Municipality of Guiuan.
The project was initiated and funded by the PPA. Meanwhile, the PCG will be in charge of implementing and maintaining its functionality.
